We are all complicit in the conspiracy of silence.
We practice it daily. In the meeting where everyone nods agreement while privately knowing the plan is flawed. In the family gathering where a glaring truth about a relative is carefully avoided. In the quiet of our own minds, where we dismiss a thought because it’s too uncomfortable, too complex, or too threatening to our self-image.
This conspiracy has a mascot: the elephant in the room. The obvious, undeniable truth that everyone pretends not to see. We are experts at navigating around it. We learn the dance as children—the averted eyes, the subject change, the forced smile. We become so good at it that we often forget the elephant is even there.
I started THAT Elephant because I remember the moment I could no longer forget.
It wasn’t a dramatic event. It was a slow, dawning realization. A pattern emerging from a thousand small silences. I saw it in the tired clichés we accept about work and life. I heard it in the conversations that passionately debated symptoms while ignoring the disease. I felt it in the hollow space where difficult questions should have been.
I realized we weren’t just avoiding topics; we were building our lives around the gaps where truth should be. We were starving ourselves of understanding and calling it politeness.
This blog is my refusal to starve anymore.
THAT Elephant is not a platform for answers. I don’t have them. It is a record of the questions we’re too busy to ask. It is an act of pointing.
It is an acknowledgment that the most interesting, important, and transformative moments happen not when we find an answer, but when we finally acknowledge the true weight of a question. When we stop and say, “Wait, that thing we’re all ignoring… why are we ignoring it?”
This is why I started a blog. Not to add to the noise, but to carve out a space for a different kind of signal. A space for the questions that matter. The ones that are heavy, awkward, and profoundly real.
The elephant is waiting. It has been for a long time. This is me, finally pointing.
